Fujitsu Air Conditioner Error Codes: Meanings and Common Causes

Is your Fujitsu air conditioner displaying an error code? Are the LED lights flashing? It’s the system’s way of telling you that something is not working correctly.

Fujitsu error codes show up in three different ways, dependng on the system type:

  • On a hardwired wall controller
  • On a wireless remote (self-diagnostic mode)
  • As blinking LED lights on the outdoor unit

In addition to providing fast professional help across Sydney and NSW, Air Care Solutions explains what each code means, what commonly causes it, and where it typically appears.

Quick Safety Reminder Before Checking Fujitsu Errors

Before doing any troubleshooting, remember to:

  • Do not open electrical panels or disassemble components.
  • Do not touch wiring or refrigerant lines.
  • Avoid DIY repairs on compressors or circuit boards.
  • If the unit smells burned, the system trips the breaker, or makes loud electrical noises, turn it off quickly and call a licensed technician.

Fujitsu Outdoor Unit LED Flash Error Codes

Fujitsu outdoor units usually display faults using blinking red and green LEDs instead of text codes.

Green LED — 3 flashes Reverse communication failure during operation ‣ PCB or wiring fault
Green LED — 4 flashes Forward communication failure at startup ‣ Wiring connection

‣ PCB board error

Green LED — 5 flashes Forward communication failure during use ‣ Unstable signal

‣ PCB issues

Green LED — 8 flashes Wired or remote controller failure ‣ Controller issues

‣ Electrical wiring issues

Red 2 flashes +

Green 2 flashes

Indoor air temperature sensor failure ‣ Sensor malfunctions

Outdoor discharge temperature sensor failure ‣ Sensor or refrigerant-related issues

Safe Checks Homeowners Can Try

We recommend calling a technician to resolve most issues that plague air conditioners; however, there are some DIY troubleshooting tips that you can do without opening the unit.

  • 1. Perform a Fujitsu power reset

Power resets can clear temporary electronic faults, minor sensor errors, and communication glitches. Any other issues caused by power fluctuations or software hiccups can disappear after a reset.

    • Turn the AC system off at the controller.
    • Switch off the isolator or breaker.
    • Wait for 5 minutes.
    • Restart the system.
  • 2. Clean the indoor air filters

Clogged filters are one of the most frequent causes of airflow-related warnings in Fujitsu systems.

Dirty filters can cause temperature sensor errors, reduce airflow, trigger pressure or overheating protection, or reduce the AC’s cooling or heating efficiency. Filters should be cleaned every 1-3 months, especially in dusty environments.

  • 3. Check outdoor unit clearance and ventilation

Fujitsu outdoor units rely on clear airflow to release heat. If airflow is restricted, the system may trigger high-pressure or temperature safety errors. Poor ventilation causes the system to overheat or shut down to protect itself.

    Check that:

    • No leaves, plants, or debris are blocking the unit.
    • There is at least 30-50cm of open space around the outdoor unit.
    • No stored items, fencing, or walls are restricting ventilation.
    • Dust buildup on the grille is gently brushed or vacuumed (without opening the unit).
  • 4. Check for drain blockage or water overflow

Damp patches, water dripping indoors, and musty smells can be signs that the drain line is blocked. This can trigger float switch errors or force the system to shut down to prevent water damage.

If water keeps building up, a technician may need to flush or clear the drain line. Safe checks you can do yourself include:

    • Looking for visible water pooling near the indoor unit.
    • Ensuring the drain hose isn’t kinked or visibly blocked.
    • Avoiding pouring chemicals into the drain.
  • . Observe whether the error returns

If the error disappears after a reset or filter clean, keep an eye on the system during the next 24-48 hours.

If the code doesn’t return, it was likely a temporary fault. And if the code comes back, it’s usually a sign of a deeper issue. To prevent long-term damage, recurring errors should be inspected by a licensed technician.

When Should You Call a Licensed Technician?

Book a professional service if:

  • The same error keeps coming back after a reset.

  • Cooling or heating performance drops.

  • The unit keeps shutting off.

  • You suspect refrigerant or compressor problems.

  • LED error patterns repeat continuously.
